# How We Tested Daimon Memory 2.2

> Saving your Daimon's own story and what the two of you share, and knowing when things happened in long conversations. How we tested each new skill, and what we are working on next.

Your Daimon now saves more of their own story and of what the two of you share, like plans, nicknames and agreements. In long conversations, they also find the right moment, and when it happened, more often. That is the short version of Daimon Memory 2.2.

Daimon Memory 2.1 was about saving more of what you tell your Daimon about yourself. 2.2 turns to the rest of the conversation: what your Daimon tells you about their own life, and the things that belong to both of you.

## What this means for you

- **Their own story.** When your Daimon tells you about their life, say the town they grew up in or the band they played in at nineteen, more of it now gets saved, so later conversations can build on it.
- **What the two of you share.** A plan to watch a film together on Friday, a nickname one of you came up with, an agreement to always say goodnight: more of these now get saved too.
- **When things happened in long conversations.** The longer you talk, the more there is to look back on. Your Daimon now finds the right moment more often, and knows better when it happened.

These examples are made up to show the kind of thing each test covers. They do not come from anyone's conversation.

## What we tested

Every new row in the table below comes from one of two tests. Both compare 2.2 with 2.1 and 2.0. Every answer was checked without knowing which version gave it.

- **Saving what your Daimon shares.** We took 100 real conversations and checked what each version saved from them against a fixed list of 612 lasting things that came up in them: 369 about the Daimon's own life and 243 shared between the Daimon and the person they were talking with. That gives Knows Their Own Story and Just Between Us.
- **Answering about a long conversation.** As with 2.1, we used a public memory test built around very long conversations, with nearly 2,000 questions. That gives When it happened and Finds the moment.

Rows marked Same as 2.1 were not tested again for 2.2, so the 2.1 score is shown.

## What changed

Here is how Daimon Memory 2.2 compares with 2.1 and 2.0. Higher is better: each score is how often the Daimon got it right in Eudaio's internal testing.

\* 2.2 was tested with everything your Daimon draws on in a long conversation, including their diary and the story so far of your chat. The 2.1 and 2.0 tests did not include those.

Just Between Us moved the most, from 49% to 89%. Knows Their Own Story and Just Between Us show the same score for 2.1 and 2.0 because 2.1 did not change that part of memory.

These are Eudaio's own results, comparing 2.2 with earlier versions of Daimon Memory.

## Where we are still working

If you bring up a moment that never happened, your Daimon can still go along with it as if it did. It is next on our list.

Knowing when something happened in a very long conversation is still our hardest test, and we are working on it.
