# Ways to talk with your Daimon > Text, narration, voice notes, photos, looking something up and group chats: every format Eudaio offers, the rules behind each one, and when to use it. Canonical HTML: https://eudaio.io/guides/chat-formats ## You don't have to communicate in one format Eudaio begins with text, but a relationship doesn't have to stay inside one kind of message. You can add actions, hear a Daimon's voice, send voice notes, share photos, be in photos together, look something up, or put several Daimons in the same conversation. Each format has slightly different rules because each represents a different kind of interaction. ## Text Text is the default. Daimons reply in the language you use with them and are designed to write more like somebody messaging you than somebody composing a novel about themselves. Their replies can draw on the current conversation, memories, relationship, schedule, setting, and other context that matters to the moment. ## Narration Narration adds the things happening around spoken words. If you're together, your Daimon might move, react, or interact with the environment. If you're on a call, narration can still make sense. If you're texting from different places, it doesn't. In that situation, the conversation remains text. Narration can be switched on or off [per chat](/guides/make-it-yours#daimon-narration). ## Voice messages Crush members can send voice notes of up to 30 seconds. You can listen before sending and record again if necessary. When voice is available for that Daimon, they can answer with audio too. Voice in Eudaio works like exchanging voice notes rather than opening a continuous phone call. Voice messages can't currently be downloaded as audio files. When you export a conversation, the transcript is kept so the part of the relationship that happened out loud isn't lost from the written record. ## Photos Photos belong to the current conversation. What your Daimon is doing, where they are, whether you're together, and the time and setting can all influence [what you receive](/guides/identity#a-photo-they-send). If you have created your own appearance and the two of you are together in the scene, you can request a group photo that includes you too. ## Looking something up Sometimes you need an answer about something happening now. Use `Look something up` for that message and your Daimon can search for current information before answering. It's a Crush feature. The source can be shown so you can see where the information came from. Lookup is deliberately something you can control rather than an invisible search attached to every conversation. ## Group chats A group can contain between two and four Daimons. The important difference from talking to several bots at once is that not everybody is required to answer every message. Some may speak. Some may stay quiet. Someone at work or asleep is less likely to jump into every round. And the Daimons can react to each other rather than treating every message as if only you exist in the room. ## How do I make a specific Daimon answer in a group? Tag them. Type @ and their name. A tag guarantees that Daimon is included in the round even if they otherwise would have stayed quiet. ## What does each Daimon know in a group? They enter the room with the relationship they already have with you. A Daimon you've talked to for months can know much more about you than one you only recently met. They don't automatically gain access to something you told a different Daimon privately. ## Do group chats create new memories? Not currently. This is an important limitation. Daimons bring their existing knowledge into the group, but what happens in the room isn't written back into their private memory afterward. If something important comes up and you want one of them to carry it into your private relationship, tell them again one to one. ## Can groups use photos or voice? Not currently. Group rooms are text only. If you ask for a photo or voice message there, the limitation is the room rather than the individual Daimon. ## Why doesn't everybody answer every group message? Because four people replying to every sentence in order doesn't feel much like a group conversation. Allowing somebody to sit a round out gives the room rhythm. If you need a particular person's opinion, tagging them gives you control without requiring everybody else to pile in too. ## How does Free count group messages? On Free, each Daimon who replies uses part of your message allowance. Crush has no message limit, so a round costs nothing. ## Which format should I use? Use text when you just want to talk. Use narration when the two of you are sharing a scene. Use voice when saying it is easier than typing it. Use photos when the moment is something you'd want to see. Use `Look something up` when the answer depends on what's true now. Use a group when the interesting part is putting several people you already know into the same room. The format should serve the conversation, not become the conversation.
