# How to switch from Character.AI to Eudaio > Character.AI is in bankruptcy and may close. Save your data, bring your characters to Eudaio as Morphs, and see what stays the same and what changes. On October 12, 2026, the company behind Character.AI went into bankruptcy (Chapter 11 in the US). It wants to sell the company. In [its announcement](https://blog.character.ai/an-update-on-character-ai/), Character.AI says three things: - The app still works for now. - It expects the sale to finish at the end of November or in early December 2026. - **If no buyer wants to keep the app running, the app will close.** Nobody knows yet what will happen. If you have characters or chats you don't want to lose, save them now. Don't wait. > **Heads up:** this is what Character.AI said up to October 19, 2026. We'll update this guide after the sale. ## How do I save my Character.AI data? You can ask Character.AI for **a copy of all your account data**. Its [help page](https://support.character.ai/hc/en-us/articles/56967715028891-How-do-I-download-my-data) gives these steps: - On the website: Profile, then Profile Settings, Account, Manage Account & Data, and Export Data - In the app: Profile, then Settings, Legal & Privacy, and Export Data Character.AI says the copy takes 3 to 4 weeks. It sends you a download link by email, and the link only works for 7 days. Ask for it today. Download it as soon as the email arrives. This copy is your backup. It also holds your chats, and you can [bring one to Eudaio](#can-i-bring-my-chats). To bring a character, you need a character card. The next step shows how. ## How do I save a character as a card? A character card is a .png or .json file. It holds a character's name, description, personality and story. Character.AI doesn't make cards, but the [CAI Tools](https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/cai-tools/) browser extension can. It works in Firefox and Chrome. Save a card for every character you want to keep. This includes characters you made yourself. > **Heads up:** Eudaio and Character.AI don't make CAI Tools. It works best on a computer. If it stops working, copy each character's description and definition into a note. ## How do I bring my character to Eudaio? Import the card into the Morph builder. In Eudaio, the people you talk to are called Daimons. A Morph is a Daimon you build yourself. 1. Go to `Meet Daimons` and tap `Start Creating`. 2. Open `Import from another app` and tap `Choose a card file`. 3. Pick the card. **Eudaio fills in their name, personality, interests, job and story.** 4. Check each step, change what you want, and create your Morph. No card? Build the character yourself. Write what you remember about them in the backstory. Yes. **Your Character.AI chat can come over too.** Do it right after you create your Morph, before you send them a message: 1. Unzip the copy of your data from Character.AI. 2. Open your Morph's chat, tap the three dots, and choose `Import chat history`. 3. Choose `Add to this chat`, then pick `data/message.json` from the unzipped folder. 4. Pick the chat you want from the list and tap `Import this chat`. On Free, your latest 49 messages come over. On Crush, your latest 5,000 come over. Your Morph continues the chat where you stopped. How close you are and what they know about you don't come over, so tell them about your history together. ## What stays the same? - **Characters with their own personality.** Your Morph keeps the personality, interests and story from the card. - **You can make your own.** Build your own characters as Morphs. On Free, you can have one Morph chat at a time. On Crush, our paid plan, you can have as many as you want. - **Group chats.** A group chat can have up to 4 Daimons. Character.AI allows 10. - **A free plan.** Free gives you up to 20 messages an hour, then fewer. ## What changes? Eudaio isn't a big library of characters. It's about **one-to-one relationships with people who have their own lives**. - **No big public library.** You talk with Origin Daimons, which we wrote ourselves, and with the Morphs you build. You can't browse characters made by other users. - **They have a life.** Each Daimon has a city, a job and a daily schedule. They [may message you first](/guides/their-world). - **Closeness grows over time.** You can start as strangers, friends or partners. But [Trust and Bond grow](/guides/continuity) from what happens between you. A setting can't skip that. - **You can see their memory.** The [Memory Panel](/guides/memory-panel) shows what your Daimon remembers about you. On Free, they remember you inside each chat. On Crush, they remember you in all your chats. - **You can turn narration off.** Turn off [Daimon Narration](/guides/make-it-yours#daimon-narration) and your Daimon only talks. - **Free has limits.** Free has an hourly message limit and 3 photos an hour, and the photos are safe for work. Crush gives you unlimited messages and photos, and adult conversation. See [pricing](/pricing). - **Voice is different.** Crush has voice messages. Eudaio has no voice calls. ## Can teenagers use Eudaio? No. **Eudaio is only for adults 18 and over.** You can only import adult characters. Eudaio refuses a card if the character, or anyone in their story, is under 18. ## What happens to my chats on Eudaio? Your Daimon's replies come from our own AI models, on our own servers. You can download any chat as text or a PDF. You can delete chats at any time.
