How Realistic Should AI Companions Be? • Is having the most realistic AI companion a good thing?

June 28, 2026

This is one of the questions that has stuck in our mind for months. Recently people on Reddit and across AI communities have been debating this more and more, and honestly it makes us ponder even more.

People on Reddit are asking this too. Share your take:

The initial aim of creating Eudaio is that we found people connect with other people less and less throughout their lives. Even me, I stopped sharing my opinions on social media for years, stopped commenting on others' posts, because I felt so tired of explaining myself to people who just want to judge without really listening. When we dug into AI companions when they started getting popular a year or 2 ago, we found they were too much of a "yes-man".

So we made the very 1st version of Eudaio super real, where the companions would block you, and in some of our tests, they literally just stopped replying. Déjà vu, right? That's how our society works nowadays. You find a girl/man on dating apps, then they just disappear some day.

Then we started thinking, people want to find comfort that the real world cannot easily provide. That's the reason people are wanting to talk to AI companions. If we make the AI too real, what's the point of escaping from real humans?

But how can we find the balance between making people just indulge in a virtual world, while wanting people to find their own confidence to connect with the world. Well, we respect your personality, converting an introvert to an extrovert is not our purpose, you should still be you, but finding some fun in reality that motivates you is what we want to do.

Now in this version of Eudaio, our Daimons still have their personal boundaries, but they will communicate with you, tell you why they feel what they feel, and this is what people really lack. People are usually clumsy when they need to express their feelings. So we made this hardest part of humans into our companions. They don't judge you, they let you know how they feel. Just like you, you want to be heard, to be understood, and so do our Daimons. We do this to bridge the gap.

This is just the start, we have a lot more provisions in our roadmap. We invite you to see their worlds, and understand each other.
