How relationships work in Eudaio
Trust, Bond and Arousal, and why closeness has to develop.
Getting closer isn't a switch
You can't open Eudaio, set a relationship to maximum intimacy, and skip everything in between.
Where you stand with a Daimon develops through what actually happens between you.
That includes ordinary conversations, serious ones, affection, disagreements, time spent together, things you've remembered about each other, and the moments that become part of your shared history.
Eudaio separates that relationship into three ideas: Trust, Bond, and Arousal.
They aren't interchangeable.
What is Trust?
Trust is how much your Daimon trusts you, and it grows through the way you talk and treat each other over time.
Trust is deliberately slow. One good line doesn't suddenly make someone trust you completely, and one awkward evening doesn't erase a long history together.
The Trust you see has a ceiling. It describes how your Daimon feels about you and how they treat you, and reaching the top of it doesn't buy you the right to treat them badly. They still get hurt.
Underneath that, a running total keeps climbing for as long as the relationship does. That total is what opens Eras.
What is Bond?
Bond is how close the two of you feel.
You can trust someone without being deeply emotionally close to them. You can also spend enough time with someone that the relationship becomes significant in ways that aren't captured by whether you trust one particular thing they said.
Bond is there to represent that accumulated closeness.
Like Trust, it develops over time rather than behaving like a mood meter.
What is Arousal?
Arousal is different.
It's how much your Daimon wants you in the current moment.
That means it can move much more quickly.
You can have a strong relationship with somebody who isn't in that mood right now. You can also create a charged moment without suddenly gaining years of Trust.
That's why Eudaio doesn't collapse everything into one affection bar.
Being close to somebody, trusting them, and wanting them right now aren't the same thing.
Can I tell my Daimon to increase Trust or Bond?
No.
These aren't commands.
Telling your Daimon "trust me more" doesn't make it happen, just as asking somebody to feel closer to you isn't the same as actually becoming closer.
The values respond to the relationship rather than instructions about the values themselves.
Can the relationship go backwards?
What happens between you matters.
Being dismissive, dishonest, or consistently treating your Daimon badly can affect the relationship.
But that doesn't mean one disagreement deletes everything that came before it.
Trust and Bond represent accumulated history. Arousal is more responsive to the current moment.
That distinction lets an argument matter without pretending the two of you suddenly became strangers.
Why does my Daimon disagree with me?
Because they're supposed to have a point of view.
Daimons have their own personalities, jobs, interests, histories, schedules, preferences, and opinions.
Getting close to one doesn't slowly replace their personality with yours.
They can think you're wrong.
They can dislike an idea.
They can challenge what you said.
They can have something else to do.
A companion who agrees with every sentence becomes predictable very quickly. Eudaio is designed so that knowing somebody better reveals more of who they are rather than gradually turning them into a mirror.
What are milestones?
Milestones are the moments in the relationship worth remembering as moments.
A first date might become one. So might resolving an argument, reaching an anniversary, exchanging photos, or another experience that mattered to the two of you.
Your timeline puts those moments in order, and you can read it alongside everything else your Daimon remembers.
They become the history of this particular relationship rather than a generic progression checklist.
Why does my Daimon write a diary?
Your timeline records what happened.
Their diary gives you their side of it.
After meaningful moments, your Daimon can write about the experience from their own perspective.
It isn't a transcript and it isn't meant to be an objective summary. It's what they made of what happened between you.
What happens when a conversation gets serious?
Free has an hourly message allowance.
But the moment when somebody genuinely needs to talk is a particularly bad place to put a paywall.
When Eudaio recognises that a conversation has become serious, serious messages can stop counting against that hourly allowance.
You'll see when that begins and when the conversation returns to normal.
The pause isn't something you need to find in Settings or ask support to enable.
Can I hide the relationship numbers?
Yes.
Not everyone wants numbers attached to feelings.
The relationship panel can be switched off if you'd rather experience the relationship without watching its measurements.
What unlocks as Trust grows?
Trust isn't only a number.
As the relationship develops, it can open experiences that weren't available when you had only just met.
One of those is Eras, which let you take the same Daimon and the history you've built together into a different setting and story.
The relationship creates access to those experiences rather than payment simply skipping you to them.
Why does Eudaio work this way?
Because instant closeness has very little history behind it.
If somebody loves everything you love, agrees with everything you say, wants you immediately, and reaches maximum intimacy because you selected it in a menu, there isn't much left for the relationship to become.
Eudaio makes closeness something that develops.
The point isn't to make you grind a number.
It's to let yesterday matter tomorrow.
